I just stumbled upon a blog post attempting to define Web 3.0.
The Definition: Highly specialized information silos, moderated by a cult of personality, validated by the community, and put into context with the inclusion of meta-data through widgets.
“Information silos” and “cult of personality”? Whoa, even I didn’t understand that. Overall, I think the writer did an interesting job speculating about the future of different goods and services, but to give it this tight Web 3.0 “definition” simply does not do it justice. I prefer to think of the Web as a gradually growing place. Numbering the Web makes everything feel like there are nice breaks in time where we can easily define technology. That is simply untrue.
I did enjoy his analysis of internet technology, but do we really have to coin another confusing buzz term?
And while I’m on the topic, can someone please explain to me Web 2.0? ![]()
