It's more a collection of different subprojects integrated under one banner. And you can pick and choose what suits you and leave the rest. I like that.

I have spent the last 6 years programming in PHP for a couple of reasons. The Linux open source movement was growing, and programmers had a few choices (PHP, JAVA, CF or ASP). The bleeding edge stuff was being done in Linux. Then we observed trickle effects into the Windows world. With that said, many programmers, regardless of language or framework - always had their own tool kit, scripts and classes. Just talk with an assembly programmer sometime. MVC is a concept that been around for decades too, and many programmers are losing their minds trying to play script kiddie, and not thinking like a programmer.

I love PHP and RoR, and you should know both, to be more versatile. RoR is a standard because its open source, and the thinkers are seeing its potential. Microsoft copies Apple, and as you are seeing the rest of the world is now starting to mimic RoR. Closing Point: We hope 55 different languages are born. When a new language somehow changes the market it means more jobs and opportunity to float that million dollars around!

I have the same thoughts as well, I also using PHP and its easy to use but I'm want to try Ruby for their differences. And one thing that I can only say is Java is not an easy course.

When I hear "young entrepreneurs" I'm thinking of all the students that finish Computer Science and aren't able to say they're good at something in particular. I'm one of those students. I tried configuring a dedicated server and realized I'm not good with networks, programming languages like C++, Java or even Sql or Php. I've studied so much for nothing. I hope the rest of your readers had better luck than me.

What did you decide on? I'm making this decision now, and I have only basic knowledge of PHP.

My thoughts:
*I know a little PHP, and so does the guy I intend to work with.
*My application has some scripting involved, so it might be better to use Ruby throughout than PHP for the site and Python for the scripting.
*I have worked in a team project on designing a web site in Django, and I know Python very well from work. However, I didn't do much with the higher-level Django stuff.
*I'd like to have an impressive resume; right now I could say that I know PHP (though not well) and Python, so maybe Ruby would be a good addition. Or maybe solid PHP knowledge would be better.
*My fiancee's name is Ruby ;)

Koder, I call FUD.

See http://modrails.com for super-easy Rails deployment.

And scaling (in a web-sense) has absolutely nothing to do with your programming language.
